Common Questions: Have You Photographed at Our Venue Before?
Questions often asked: Have you photographed at our venue before?
When couple connect with me, one of the most common questions I get is. Have you photographed at our venue before? And when you’re in the middle of planning your wedding, this question usually comes from a place of wanting reassurance. You’ve chosen a venue that feels right for you, somewhere that sets the tone for the day, and it’s only natural to wonder whether your photographer will understand the space, the light, and how everything will flow.
You might be picturing key moments already. Where you’ll stand during the ceremony. Where you’ll slip away for a few quiet portraits. How your venue will feel in your photographs years from now. Wanting to feel confident that your photographer can guide you through all of that is completely understandable.
Sometimes the answer is yes. And sometimes it isn’t. But that is nothing to worry about.
My approach to working at new wedding venues
One of the reasons I love wedding photography so much is the variety. While I do love returning to my venues you’ll often see in my portfolio, that’s because I choose to go back to them. More often than not, I’m working with couples at venues I haven’t photographed before, and that’s something I genuinely enjoy.
Photography is a creative process. While there are always a few timeless moments every couple hopes to have captured, working in a new space allows me to respond naturally to what’s there in front of me. The light. The layout. The atmosphere you’ve created. This means your photographs never feel repeated or formulaic, but carefully shaped around you and your day.
Before any wedding at a new venue, I prepare thoroughly. I research the space in advance, looking at the venue website, previous weddings, sun positions, and aerial views. Everything I need to understand how a place works is already available, and I make sure I arrive informed and confident.
On the wedding day itself, I always allow time to properly take in the space. This matters far more than visiting on a random day beforehand. Being there on the day means I can see exactly how the light is falling, what’s in bloom, how the weather is behaving, and how the venue is being used for your wedding.
If you’ve chosen your venue because it feels unique and personal, I’ll approach it in the same way. I’m just as happy creating something fresh and unexpected as I am gently recreating the moments that made you fall in love with the space in the first place.
Wherever you’re getting married, whether in Hampshire, the Cotswolds, or elsewhere in the UK, my focus remains the same. To work calmly, creatively, and with intention, so your photographs feel natural, thoughtful, and truly yours.
